When searching up for the definition of the word “architect” in the dictionary we find the following statement: a person who designs buildings and in many cases also supervises their construction. But is architecture only about buildings and constructions ?
As many of us already know an architect is a designer of buildings but at the same time an artist, a musician, a communicator or even a sociologist.
As a consequence the architect has to develop his talent: first by learning to see (traveling, reading, drawing…), second by learnig to think, third by learning to create (understanding the needs of the user, the compositional rules, the materials and the construction techniques…)
“As an architect, you design for the present, with an awareness of the past for a future which is essentially unknown”
Norman Foster
“Any architectural work that does not express serenity is an error”
Luis Barragán
To conclude the architect, or the young futur architect, should build himself and develop his strenghts, an architect has to be curious about things ask about the why behind each single aspect, studying and analyzing it. As he’s working on himself, the future architect should be patient as the route to success is hard and challeging. Talking about challenge, the soon-to-be architect should never compare himself to others, his reference is his past self, this way he matures and makes progress.
